- By Jack Hardy and Ewan Somerville

TWO teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed in a suspected love triangle attack at a university halls of residence.

The victim, 19, was seriously injured in an attack at the University of Warwick’s Sherbourne accommodation, on the outskirts of its Coventry campus.

Armed police were seen storming the block after being called to reports of a knife attack at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, leading to the arrests of a man and a woman, both aged 18.

The victim was initially treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital, West Midlands Ambulance Service said. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Students living at the accommodation block, which was initially evacuated, claimed that a dispute over a love affair had led to the violence and may have involved someone who did not study at Warwick.

The attack is believed to have taken place inside one of the flats, with security being alerted when the victim was heard screaming by other residents.

Footage circulating on social media showed armed officers going up a flight of stairs and entering one of the corridors in the 794-room block.

Shortly afterwards, police can be seen leading an individual in handcuffs towards a marked vehicle.

A spokesman for University of Warwick said: “We want to reassure those concerned by a continued police presence around Sherbourne that there is no danger to students or staff.

“We can confirm an incident has taken place. Police officers remain on site as part of an investigation following the incident, as do members of Warwick staff.”

Warwickshire Police issued a plea for any witnesses to come forward.

Det Insp Cawail Wong said: “This was a serious incident in which a young man has suffered stab wounds.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a stabbing near to Gibbet Hill Road. One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

“On arrival we discovered one male who was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital by land ambulance. The air crew travelled on the back of the ambulance to help continue treatment enroute to hospital.”
