We’ll see you next year
sir – My neighbours erected a closeboard fence in the incorrect position 14 years ago. This year I applied to the Land Registry for an alteration to my deed plans through occupation by adverse possession. It is a small piece of land, of insignificant value to either party, but I wanted to regularise the position.
The forms were submitted and payment made on April 13 and acknowledged on April 26. On inquiring how the case was proceeding I was informed the matter should be completed by November 2023.

sir – I completed my annual tax assessment in 20 minutes last Wednesday. A small query was outstanding, so the next day at 9am I phoned HMRC and after a sevenminute wait I reached a very nice advisor, Allison, who in five minutes checked my tax assessment and changed my tax code.
I then mentioned that I was due a tax rebate, so she put me through to the correct department and after a two-minute wait another very nice lady, Beverley, put the payment process in motion. With all business complete, I ended the call at 9.30am.
I realise that this pleasant interaction with HMRC goes against the grain of the experiences of many fellow Telegraph readers when dealing with the Civil Service. However, we do a disservice to the many hard-working lower-level staff in not highlighting the excellent levels of service that do exist. Chris Devine

sir – I sent off for a new passport on February 21 and have proof of posting. My old passport was returned within two weeks, and I was assured that my application was being processed. Since then: nothing.
I have a booking with Brittany Ferries on June 11 for a holiday in France. My husband has booked a suite in a chateau for a few nights and then a villa for 10 days as a special birthday treat. I shall be 80 on June 7.
Time is getting very short. Carol Nicholson Cheddar, Somerset
