DETECTIVES investigating the killing of Harry Pitman, who was stabbed to death on New Year’s Eve on Primrose Hill, have said they believe his killing was the result of a “spontaneous fight between two people who didn’t know each other”.

Police have also issued images of two people who they want to speak to in connection with the death.

Three teenagers – aged 15, 16 and 18 – have been arrested in connection with the incident but have been released on bail by police.

The 16-year-old schoolboy died after he was stabbed in the neck on Primrose Hill shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve.

He had travelled to the area in Camden with friends and was among thousands of revellers who had gathered to see in the new year and watch fireworks above the city.

But he was stabbed following an altercation at around 11.40pm and died shortly before midnight.

Issuing a fresh appeal for information from the public, Det Ch Insp Geoff Grogan said that the police believe the stabbing had been the result of a fight that had quickly escalated to extreme violence.

He said: “Our enquiries so far have established that there was no racial or gang element to this incident, it appears to have been a spontaneous fight between two people who didn’t know each other, that quickly escalated to extreme violence.”

Mr Grogan also appealed for help to identify two people who were at Primrose Hill at the time and who they believe might be able to assist with the investigation.

Mr Grogan added: “We are working at pace to identify and speak to everyone in the immediate vicinity of the murder, and to that end, I have issued two images and am asking anyone who can name the people pictured to get in touch.

“Similarly, if you see yourself pictured, please contact us without delay.

“It may be that you have information that could help us, or that we can eliminate you from our enquiries.

“Harry’s family is devastated. He was a vibrant young man who should have had his life ahead of him.

“We continue to support them as they struggle to come to terms with their loss.”

He added: “Despite having made three arrests, I am still very keen to hear from anyone who has footage or information that could assist our investigation, particularly if you can name any of the people in the images.

“I would also like to thank everyone who has come forward so far, the response from the public has been exceptional.

“Please continue to come forward if you can help.”
