Hunter Biden to tell ‘his side of the story’ in new documentary film
A PROMINENT Hollywood lawyer and friend of Hunter Biden is making a documentary about the US president’s son in an attempt to rescue his reputation amid Republican smears and two criminal trials.
The production by Kevin Morris, a longtime adviser to Joe Biden’s son, comes as he faces criticism from GOP congressmen attempting to impeach his father. Mr Morris, who specialises in brokering entertainment deals, has taken an interest in Hunter’s struggles with addiction and has reportedly loaned him almost $5 million (£3.9 million).
The media mogul, 60, has become known as Hunter’s “Sugar Bro” because of the financial assistance, and has been offering him public relations advice.
His previous cases include a rights deal for the creators of South Park, which gives them a 50-50 stake in its commercial success online.
Mr Morris has now begun shooting a documentary about the embattled former businessman, highlighting his recovery from crack cocaine addiction and attempts by House Republicans to use his business dealings to tarnish his father’s political career.
Last month, every Republican in the House of Representatives voted to launch an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, amid claims of “high crimes and misdemeanours” over his connec- tion to his son’s business activities.
Republicans have so far been unable to produce evidence that the president was involved in corruption, or substantiate claims that he had abused his previous office as vice-president to enrich his son’s business career.
On Dec 13, Hunter Biden appeared to give a statement on Capitol Hill. Refusing to participate in an off-the-record deposition by House Republicans he said would not be used against his father through leaks to the media. He said he would appear to give evidence before Congress, but only in a televised committee hearing, and condemned Republicans for attacks on his father.
“They have ridiculed my struggle with addiction, they have belittled my recovery and they have tried to dehumanise me – all to embarrass and damage my father, who has devoted his life to public service,” he said. The statement is thought to have been orchestrated by Mr Morris, who is acting as his media adviser, and is also facing requests to appear before Congress.
Hunter Biden has said he “[doesn’t] know where I would be if not for Kevin”. “I don’t mean just because he has loaned me money to survive this onslaught, I mean because he has given me back my dignity. He’s been a brother to me,” he said. It comes as Hunter faces separate indictments of failure to pay taxes and for owning a firearm while under the influence of illegal drugs. He has pleaded not guilty to both.
