The second Hirst Kurbalija Swiss Teams has taken place at the Cardiff Bridge Club, writes Julian Pottage, Bridge Correspond­ent. The winners were as follows:

1st Paul and Sophie Cunningham, Gwynn Davis and Susan Ingham, 89 VPS.

2nd= Simon Gottschalk, Trevor Towers, Simon and Debbie Richards, 84 VPS.

2nd= Ceri Pierce, Ann Hirst, Diane Kurbalija and Paul Denning, 84 VPS. this afternoon visited Royal Birmingham Conservato­ire, 200 Jennens Road, Birmingham, and was received by Group Captain Ian Sargeant (Deputy Lieutenant of West Midlands).

His Royal Highness, Patron, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, afterwards visited Symphony Hall, Centenary Square, Birmingham, and was received by Mr Afzal Hussain (Deputy Lieutenant of West Midlands).

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, this evening attended a Concert at Symphony Hall and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-lieutenant of West Midlands (Sir John Crabtree).

The Princess Royal, Chancellor, the University of Edinburgh, this afternoon attended a Reception to mark the Sixtieth Anniversar­y of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligen­ce, Central University Campus, 10 Crichton Street, Edinburgh, and was received by Dame Susan Bruce (Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh).

Her Royal Highness, Chancellor, the University of Edinburgh, later opened the Institute for Regenerati­on and Repair, 4-5 Little France Drive, Edinburgh Bioquarter, Edinburgh.

The Princess Royal, Honorary Member, New Club, Edinburgh, this evening attended the Seventieth Anniversar­y Amalgamati­on Dinner, the New Club, 86 Princes Street,

Edinburgh, and was received by Mrs Jacqueline Easson (Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh).

The Duke of Gloucester, Colonel-in-chief, Royal Army Medical Corps, this morning received Brigadier Robin Simpson upon relinquish­ing his appointmen­t as Representa­tive Colonel Commandant and Brigadier Martin Nadin upon assuming the appointmen­t.
