Three things to do in the week ahead

- England get their Netball Nations

Watch Women’s Champions League

The group stages of the Champions League reach their conclusion this month, with Chelsea the sole representatives from the Women’s Super League. Only Barcelona and Lyon have qualified for the knockouts so far but Emma Hayes’s side are well positioned to join them.

They sit top of Group D and a win over Real Madrid at Stamford

Bridge on Wednesday will enable them to reach the last eight. Chelsea’s final group match is away at Paris FC on Jan 30 and both those can be watched for free on DAZN. In fact, the streaming platform, which this week launched a campaign for a “New Deal” for women’s football to ensure the sport is commercially viable and sustainable, will show all remaining Women’s Champions League matches this season.

Read Far Beyond Gold

Sydney Mclaughlin-levrone has utterly dominated the 400 metres hurdles event in recent years. She won Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021 and a year later became world champion with a record time of 50.68 seconds – she set four world records in 13 months. Yet the American has also struggled with anxiety on her journey to the top, something she opens up about in her autobiography Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith.

“When you see athletes, entertainers, performers, it’s hard to relate to them at times,” she has said of writing the book. “But I want people to know that we all struggle. We all have issues we go through and battles we’re facing.”

Cup campaign underway at OVO Arena Wembley this weekend, where they play Uganda on Saturday and Australia – a rematch of last year’s World Cup final – on Sunday. They then head to Leeds’ First Direct Arena the following weekend for a final round-robin game against New Zealand before the finals on Jan 28. Tickets are still available to attend matches at both venues and they will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
