‘Disturbed’ father called 999 before stabbing daughters

- By Max Stephens

A FATHER who was found dead at his family home in Norfolk alongside his two daughters and sister-in-law had told police only an hour before how he feared for his own “mental state”.

Bartlomiej Kuczynski, a Polish engineer, had phoned 999 at 6am in a state of confusion asking for help, the police watchdog disclosed yesterday.

However, the 45-year-old was ignored by Norfolk Constabulary and told to seek his own medical advice.

An hour later, following a call from a worried dog walker, officers found his body and those of his two daughters, Jasmin, 12, Natasha, nine, and their aunt Kanticha Sukpengpanao, 36, at their house in Costessey near Norwich on Friday.

Post-mortem examinations found Mr Kuczynski died of a single stab wound to the neck while Ms Sukpengpanao died from multiple knife wounds to the neck.

Further examinations of the two girls will be carried out today.

Detectives have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Norfolk police now faces questions from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over whether anything could have been done to avert the incident.

It is the second referral the force has made to the watchdog after it emerged officers had been called to the property last month after Mr Kuczynski went missing.

Officers had reportedly searched woodland near his semi-detached house before eventually finding him on a nearby housing estate.

They are said to have taken him to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for an assessment but he left the site in Colney unescorted before it was carried out.

Naty Wathanakul, a close friend of Ms Sukpengpanao, said the aunt had been staying at the family’s home on a visit from Thailand.

She told the Daily Mirror: “She was very nice and caring to all friends of her, a really big supportive person, she helped everyone.”

The IOPC said it has launched an investigation to establish the full extent of contact the force had with the family prior to their deaths.
