Range Rover Prince Philip drove Obamas in goes on sale

- By India Mctaggart Royal Correspondent

A RANGE Rover owned by Queen Elizabeth II and used by Prince Philip to drive the Obamas has gone up for sale with a price tag of £224,850.

The car was used to welcome the former US president and first lady when they visited Windsor Castle in April 2016 during a three-day trip to Britain.

A picture taken at the time shows Prince Philip driving with the late Queen and Mrs Obama in the back, while President Obama sat in the front passenger seat.

The Obamas were being transported from the Marine One helicopter to the castle for a private lunch. They also dined with the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as part of their UK visit.

Bramley Motor Cars, based in Surrey, is now offering the Land Rover Range Rover 4.4 SD V8 Autobiography for sale.

The Range Rover is equipped with additional grab handles to the rear passenger compartment, which were used to “enable Her Majesty The Queen to be able to access the rear passenger compartment more comfortably”.

The listing on Autotrader says some additional items added while the car was in royal service had been removed “but the grab handles used by Her Majesty were left with the car, a lovely touch. The warning sticker for the siren, which was located in the engine compartment also remains, as a hint to this Range Rover’s previous life”.

The car has 18,000 miles on the clock and was registered in 2016.

It comes after another Range Rover belonging to the late Queen was sold by Iconic Auctioneers for £132,750.

Its royal past had been shrouded in mystery, but an eagle-eyed car collector guessed it may have belonged to the monarch after he unearthed footage of her driving the vehicle at the 2005 Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The vehicle, coloured in the late Queen’s favoured Epsom Green, included the tell-tale signs of the numerous factory-ordered specifications that were in line with the modifications seen among the royal fleet.
