Everyone’s a leftie until they wise up, says Holly Valance

- By Genevieve Holl-allen POLITICAL REPORTER

FORMER Neighbours star Holly Valance, has declared “everyone starts off as a leftie” until they realise the ideaology is “crap”, as she attended t he launch of the Popular Conservatives group.

Valance, who is also a model and pop singer, who topped the charts in 2002 with her song Kiss Kiss, accompanied her property t ycoon husband Nick Candy to this week’s event, where Liz Truss, the former prime minister, and other Right-wing Tory MPS set out their vision for the new fringe group.

Valance, 40, described the speakers at the Popcon event as “fantastic” and said she would like Sir Jacob ReesMogg, the former business secretary, to become prime minister.

Asked about her politics, Valance said: “I would say everyone starts off as a Leftie and then wakes up at some point after you start either making money, working, trying to run a business, trying to buy a home ... and then realises what crap ideas they all are and then you go to the Right.”

She told GB News: “I thought Liz [Truss] was actually really, really interesting to listen to. Jacob [Rees-mogg] for PM.”

She also described Lee Anderson, the former Conservative Party chairman, as “awesome”, adding: “Love a northerner – straight to the point and very sensible and for real people.”

Her remarks came as Rishi Sunak faces growing discontent among Rightwing backbenchers.

Ms Truss used her speech on Tuesday to claim “Left-wing extremists” now run large parts of Britain and criticised her own party for failing to champion conservative values.

Mr Anderson said politicians were “out of touch” on net zero and that he had suggested allowing people to opt out of green levies on their gas bills but that the idea had been dismissed.

Valance said: “Many things worry and bother me with two little children to bring up – what they might inherit. So I want to come and listen to ideas.”

Mailonline reported that prominent Conservatives had privately expressed the desire that Valance should stand as an MP.

Valance’s husband has previously donated money to the Tories, but not since Boris Johnson left Number 10.

Mr Candy gave over £270,000 to the Conservative Party between 2020 and May 2022.

Also in attendance was Nigel Farage, who said he ag reed wit h t he group’s “stated aims” but wanted more discussion about i mmigration at the event.
