Housing reforms will destroy Forces morale
sir – As a former Army officer’s wife – 27 years and 19 moves – I can think of nothing better calculated to destroy the Armed Forces from within than the Modern Accommodation Offer (Letters, February 26).
What mystifies me most, however, is how and why the service chiefs came to sign off on something so destructive to the morale of the officer corps.

sir – Andrew Murrison, the minister for defence people and families, and the Ministry of Defence have got this policy blatantly wrong. I am a constituent of Mr Murrison’s and a long-time Conservative voter, but as an Army wife of more than 35 years, I will certainly not be voting for him at the next election. He has betrayed us.
Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire
sir – As a daughter of an Army officer for 24 years and the wife of a Navy officer for 16, I heartily agree with much of what Allison Pearson had to say (Comment, February 24).
However, I live in close proximity to the Afghan families she mentioned and have found myself wondering if there is a formal way to help and engage with them. I want to show kindness and gratitude for the terror and danger they must have put themselves and their loved ones through in order to support our own military personnel and this country.
These individuals have given up their whole world to serve the cause of peace and democracy, and therefore should not be referred to in a derogatory fashion.
Myddle, Shropshire
sir – I served in a number of ranks from 1965 to 1985. Not one of the stations I served on had enough accommodation for the married element of the service, and what there was was not always good. Indeed, I moved off base in 1971 when I saw what my family and I were being offered.
What changes? Nothing – except the civil servants trotting out platitudes. The good thing today is that those serving have begun to gain a voice.
