Princes take part in awards ceremony in Diana’s honour

- By Victoria Ward

Prince William and Prince Harry will take part in an awards ceremony held to honour their late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Prince of Wales will attend the Diana Legacy Awards at the Science Museum this evening to deliver a short speech at the event, which marks the charity’s 25th anniversary.

The Duke of Sussex will meet award winners virtually after the ceremony when he speaks to them from his home in California.

The brothers are not on speaking terms, following the Duke of Sussex’s decision to move his family to the US, but they have long championed the Diana Award .

It is the only charity to bear the Princess’s name and honours young people aged from nine to 25 who work to improve the lives of others.

Last year, the princes each recorded a video segment that was played during the ceremony.

William said he was “proud” to continue the belief shared by his mother that “when we invest in young people… they can truly change the world.” Harry said his mother recognised the “unique ability” of young people to “challenge the status quo and push for a more inclusive and compassionate society”.

The last official joint engagement the brothers carried out in person was the unveiling of their mother’s statue at Kensington Palace in July 2021.

In September 2022, they were joined by their wives to view flowers and tributes left in honour of Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle and attended their grandmother’s funeral and the King’s Coronation.

The awards, which are held every two years, celebrate the achievements of 20 young leaders who are inspiring the next generation to make a positive impact on the world.
