Knifeman jailed for Deliveroo rider attack
Lewis Livingstone handed six and a half years in prison for stabbing man
A KNIFE-WIELDING robber attacked a Deliveroo cyclist in north London before stabbing him in the stomach in an attempt to steal his bike.
Lewis Livingstone of Wellington Road, Enfield, was on Thursday jailed for six and a half years after pleading guilty to attempted robbery and possession of a bladed article.
CCTV footage showed the cyclist tackle Livingstone to the floor in an attempt to reclaim his stolen bike before he thrusts a large kitchen knife into the victim’s abdomen.
Onlookers managed to detain the attacker at around 4.30pm on July 1 last year until police arrived.
Wood Green Crown Court, which was sitting at Hendon magistrates’ court, heard that the victim, then aged 28, was riding his bike home in Enfield after buying food, when Livingstone, who had been waiting at a bus stop in Fore Street, leapt into the road.
Livingstone pushed and kicked the man off his bike before taking out a knife and chasing him off.
The cyclist then charged at Livingstone as he attempted to ride away bringing the robber to the ground.
As they wrestled on the floor, Livingstone retrieved his knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen and slashed his hands with the blade.
The victim was heard screaming for help with passers-by coming to his aid and holding down Livingstone until police arrived at the scene.
When asked why he had attacked the man, one witness claimed that Livingstone said: “Is he dead?”
The victim was given first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.
The investigative team charged Livingstone within 24 hours and he was remanded in custody.
Livingstone initially claimed that he was acting in self-defence but detectives rejected the notion.
In an impact statement, the victim said: “I believe this man was going to kill me, had the people not come to my rescue.
“I am still not over the shock and fear. I spent the night in hospital having nightmares. I still have a lot of pain on my side and hands as a result of being stabbed.
“I am now in the queue waiting for surgery on my hands.”
Det Con James Hunt, the investigating officer, said: “The victim continues to suffer with the physical and psychological impact of this incident.
“He was going about his day, having just bought some food, when he was thrust into a terrible ordeal.
“I know he is incredibly grateful to the people who came to his aid.
“Were it not for their bravery, this incident could potentially have been far worse.
“It’s a good example of the community coming forward and working together with the police following a serious crime.
He added: “Those valuable witnesses, combined with other investigative work, were key in helping us quickly charge and remand Livingstone.”
Livingstone received a further 18 months in prison for being in breach of a suspended sentence.
