We enjoyed your article on the countryman’s dog (Sporting Dog, July issue). Our lurcher (pictured) regularly goes picking-up. She easily outpaces the “recognised” retriever breeds and is second to none on runners. Recall is perfect – but only when retrieving as she is keen to return and show off her trophies. How fortunate that there is entertainment for these dogs now that they can no longer indulge in the sport for which they were bred. Laura Shuttleworth
