BRITTLE BASKET

QI have a number of wicker items around the house, most notably a substantial wicker log basket. It has become rather brittle. Can you recommend a dressing that, when applied, will give it back its flexibility and rich colour?

IMWB, West Kent Coates English Willow Centre near Taunton in Somerset recommends that you soak the basket in water for about an hour, then leave it to dry. This won’t harm the basket but will help with brittleness. To preserve and restore the basket, brush or spray it with a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and turpentine.
