Jonathan Young is to be commended for his Lenten fast and amusing writing (Young in the field,

April issue). However, he doesn’t have to wear a hair shirt throughout the 40 days. As “any fule kno”, Sundays are always a feast day, so excluded from the pre-easter fast.

And no need to say “Easter Sunday” – it’s just Easter Day. Incidentally, what is often called Easter Saturday is not until the Saturday after Easter; the Saturday before Easter Day is Holy Saturday. Lesson over. Rev’d Robin Hungerford, Heytesbury, Wiltshire
