Some switch to No 5 shot for the late-season grouse that fly along the line and don’t commit to coming through the butts. A few hosts strongly dislike No 5s, however, as they consider it creates a much greater risk of serious injury if a fellow gun, beater or flanker is accidentally shot. Most guns use No 6s and 7s. Take lots, at least two slabs. You may not need them but why take the risk? My guns like Rio and Eley cartridges; other people swear by Hull, Gamebore, Lyalvale Express, RC and other brands. Use whatever gives you confidence.
