BRITISH INSTITUTIONS: THE TRUSTED GUARDIANS
End of your tether yet? With Pony Club camp under the belt, the rest of August stretches ahead; there’s the Scottish sojourn on the cards but the smalls still need amusing. I can recommend pressing this charming book into the paws of those smalls (five to 11 years old) who might be exhibiting signs of ennui (teach them about the Macnab while you’re at it; see page 93).
Part of a series featuring Britain’s greatest public institutions, Debra Price’s history of the Household Cavalry is both engaging and fun, with activities that run alongside the text as budding historians learn about the importance of The Lifeguards, The Blues and The Royals, how they began and what they do today. Charmingly illustrated, this book should stave off some of the summer madness and imbue an appreciation of our important British heritage.
