Third injured jockeys’ centre underway

-

Work started this summer on the Injured Jockeys Fund’s (IJF) rehabilitation and fitness centre at the British Racing School in Newmarket. Peter O’sullevan House – named after the legendary voice of racing – is being built by East Anglian contractors RG Carter and is expected to cost £6m.

Lisa Hancock, CEO of the IJF, said that the start of building work “is a massive milestone as it completes the trio of IJF rehabilitation centres across the country.” The other two centres are Oaksey House in Lambourn and Jack Berry House in Malton.

The new centre will offer state-of-theart equipment as well as housing the IJF head office and a Peter O’sullevan Atrium, containing racing memorabilia from his life.

Due for completion at the end of 2019, initial funds were donated by the Peter O’sullevan Charitable Trust, the Thompson Family Charitable Trust and the Racing Foundation but additional support is needed.

Members of the public who donate more than £100 will be allocated one of the 800 horseshoes that will be used to create a sculpture in the grounds. All the shoes will have been worn by racehorses from the Newmarket racing yards.
