THE NAME GAME

-

I read that there’s been a 70% reduction in illegal songbird trapping at a British military base in Cyprus, due to the use of thermal image drones. Blackcaps, the report says, sell for up to £65 per dozen. A fiver each for a bird weighing 21g. What must that come down to in an oven-ready state, 10g? Perhaps if stylish restaurants were to rename their dishes of pheasant and partridge Ambelopoulia a-la Cyprussori, or some such nonsensical name, we might see UK game dealers being able to afford to pay prices reflecting the true cost of English game. Don’t hold your breath. Raymond Barry Laytham, York
