took the lead, against the run of play, on 11 minutes when Stuart Lewis dispossessed Luke Young before picking out McClure to slot home.

Argyle pressed on in search of an equaliser as Cowan-Hall fired wide in the 21st minute.

The Pilgrims continued to lay siege to the Chairboys’ goal as Darren Purse headed over from a corner on 54 minutes before Chadwick nodded wide a minute later.

On 81 minutes substitute Ade Azeez looked to have added a second for the Chairboys, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Two minutes later, Curtis Nelson had a shot blocked on the line by Wycombe defender Anthony Stewart as their search for an equaliser proved to be in vain and the Pilgrims’ run of four games unbeaten came to an end.

Pilgrims’ boss Carl Fletcher admitted he will have to move players on before he can bring in any new faces.

He said: “We didn’t put the ball in the back of the net and that was the difference, we lacked a little bit of quality in the final third that eluded us.

“We’re disappointed not to get a goal for our dominance for the rest of the game. Even after the goal, we had enough chances and possession to get back into the game. “We can’t do anything until we make room, there’s definitely people we want to get in but we can’t do it until we get the finances right.”
