PEARSON BACKING FOR VARDY

-

LEICESTER boss Nigel Pearson insists he never planned to ditch Jamie Vardy but hopes his striker finds the net more frequently this season.

This time last year Vardy was swapping Fleetwood Town for the Foxes in a deal worth £1m and Person admits it may have taken time for him to adjust.

Five goals in 28 league appearances suggest as much, but Pearson believes the 26-year-old will benefit from being a year wiser.

“He has started the season in a positive vein and he is a player that gives us vitality up front,” said Pearson.

“I’m sure he wants to be a success and, hopefully, he will score a lot more goals.

“He works hard and is a very likeable lad. It was quite a big step to come from non-league into the Championship.”
