TOMLIN ENJOYS THE TEST

PORT VALE striker Gavin Tomlin has admitted he is surprised by the quality on show in League One.

The 30-year-old, who moved this summer from League Two side Southend, scored 16 goals in 42 games for the Shrimpers last campaign.

“I like to test myself and I prefer to test myself against the higher opponents, so I’m looking forward to the next few games,” said Tomlin.

“The opponents have been better than I expected – they pass the ball fairly well.

“The higher you go the less weakness in your opponents, so it’s been interesting.”
