FERGIE: LEE GOT WRONG ADVICE

- By Jason Phillips

PETERBOROUGH boss Darren Ferguson has questioned the advice being handed down to Lee Tomlin after the striker slapped in a transfer request.

The 24-year-old has notched 35 goals since joining from Rushden & Diamonds three years ago but rejected the offer of a new contract this summer.

Tomlin still has two years to run on his deal, and Ferguson believes his career would be better suited remaining with the club rather than listening to his entourage.

“Lee is entitled to do what he did,” Ferguson said. “If I was advising him I certainly wouldn’t have advised him to hand in a transfer request, but he did and the club rejected it.

“That really is the end of the matter. Lee has two years left on his contract. We tried to extend in the summer, but it didn’t happen.

“I had a quick chat with Lee and I have told him that if his attitude remains as strong as it’s been for the opening few matches then we won’t have a problem.

“Lee loves playing football and he loves playing for this club. There is no way he will sulk over the club’s decision. If he did I don’t see who would benefit so I expect him to continue playing very well for this club.”
