Another fine Messi for boss Spencer

-

CONTROVERY just seems to follow Spencer Trethewy. Remember him? He was the young fraudster who said he could save Aldershot before they tumbled out of the League.

Now, as Spencer Day, he is manager of Farnborough in Skrill South and they have just convinced their players to change their names to Messi, Pele, Maradona etc by deed poll.

In return the troubled Hampshire club have received £100,000 from bookmaker Paddy Power.

Poblem is the cash did not reach the Conference by the deadline to buy their bond for this season’s competition. So they have found their first two games postponed, starting with yesterday’s against Chelmsford City.

Conference chairman Brian Lee, former Wycombe Wanderers manager and chairman, says there is a chance they not be able to compete in the competition all season.

So Beckham, Best, Cruyff, Moore, Terry and manager Mourinho must wait for their first outing.

And presumably the £2,000 fee each are said to be receiving.

And what does Lee think of the Paddy Power idea?

“A cheap publicity stunt,” he said.
