BLACKPOOL ROCK READING

-

READING may well still be one of the favourites to make an instant return to the Premier League this season but they were given a reminder of just how tough the Championship can be.

The two sides were unbeaten going into this game, but Paul Ince’s decision to name a midfield three of Barry Ferguson, Neal Bishop and Angel Martinez stifled Reading and ensured the home side enjoyed the better of the possession.

Nigel Adkins criticised his side’s defensive showing in the 3-3 draw with Watford and he will have been disappointed with his back four again after ship- ping a very avoidable late goal. The result leaves Blackpool top of the Championship and Reading languishing in mid-table.

Quite whether that will be the same come the end of the season remains to be seen, but the Seasiders showed there is plenty of reason for optimism, while the Royals have just been served a timely warning.
