HAVE A LAUGH... MCGUINNESS KNOWS HOW TO DO IT

NOT SO long ago, I could guarantee myself a good laugh each week as my mobile phone buzzed away with jokes.

Nowadays, driven by political correctness, the joke supply has dried up!We all worry about upsetting somebody. To me, it is a real shame of the age we are living in.

We really do need to make sure that we don’t take ourselves and life too seriously. Laughter is a wonderful medi- cine and we ought to do all we can to promote a good laugh. Even if that sometimes means having a good laugh at ourselves.

As Wilf McGuinness faced the Man United board, he was told by Sir Matt,‘Wilf, you are the manager of Manchester United Football Club, the greatest club in the world; the board and I agree that we don’t know what we would do without you...’Wilf stopped, blushed and said a brief thank you before Sir Matt finished off ‘...but we’re gonna give it a go!’

McGuinness tells that story. He takes the joke on himself. That is what more of us could do for all of our good.
