LIVER­POOL main­tained their per­fect start to the sea­son as Daniel Stur­ridge scored the only goal at Villa Park.

The Eng­land striker fired in mid­way through the first half, fin­ish­ing off a delightful move.

Villa strug­gled in the first half but im­proved in the sec­ond, with Liver­pool goal­keeper Si­mon Mig­no­let in fine form to twice deny Chris­tian Ben­teke. A LUKAS Podol­ski dou­ble en­sured Arse­nal con­tin­ued their mo­men­tum from the mid­week Euro­pean vic­tory by de­feat­ing Ful­ham.

Arse­nal took the lead through Olivier Giroud, his sec­ond of the Pre­mier League sea­son.

HULL earned their first points since pro­mo­tion to the Pre­mier League as Rob­bie Brady’s penalty was enough for their ten men to beat Nor­wich.

The Tigers took the lead af­ter Michael Turner was pe­nalised for foul­ingYan­nick Sagbo.

How­ever, Sagbo was sent off mo­ments later af­ter clash­ing with Rus­sell Martin but Nor­wich failed to score. YOAN Gouf­fran wasted a glo­ri­ous chance to earn New­cas­tle their first win of the sea­son af­ter fir­ing over the bar from two yards in in­jury time against West Ham.

Gouf­fran re­acted first af­ter Sammy Ameobi’s cross came back off the cross bar but failed to fin­ish off a sim­ple chance to win the match.

JOSE Fonte headed in late on to res­cue Southamp­ton a point at home to Sun­der­land.

The vis­i­tors had led for most of the match af­ter Emanuele Gi­ac­cherini was left un­marked to head in a sec­ond-minute cross.

Jay Ro­driguez thought he had equalised only for the flag to deny him but Fonte en­sured the points were shared when he rose high­est in the 88th minute.

ROBERTO Martinez is still await­ing his first vic­tory as Ever­ton man­ager af­ter West Brom goal­keeper Ben Foster de­nied his side the win.

Foster saved from Steven Pien­aar and Kevin Mi­ral­las and also de­nied Sea­mus Cole­man, Ross Barkley and Marouane Fel­laini.

And Fel­laini and Cole­man both hit the wood­work at the death as West Brom held on.

and then smashed in a third.

Dar­ren Bent then scored soon af­ter com­ing off the bench for his de­but but Arse­nal saw the game out.

MARK Hughes won his first home game in charge of Stoke af­ter Ryan Shawcross com­pleted a come­back win over Crys­tal Palace.

Stoke went be­hind when Marouane Chamakh scored for the Ea­gles.

Char­lie Adam lev­elled the game when he curled in a left-footed strike be­fore Shawcross pounced to grab all three points and give Hughes a fine home start.
