LIVERPOOL maintained their perfect start to the season as Daniel Sturridge scored the only goal at Villa Park.

The England striker fired in midway through the first half, finishing off a delightful move.

Villa struggled in the first half but improved in the second, with Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in fine form to twice deny Christian Benteke. A LUKAS Podolski double ensured Arsenal continued their momentum from the midweek European victory by defeating Fulham.

Arsenal took the lead through Olivier Giroud, his second of the Premier League season.

Podolski made it 2-0 when he shot home from 18 yards

HULL earned their first points since promotion to the Premier League as Robbie Brady’s penalty was enough for their ten men to beat Norwich.

The Tigers took the lead after Michael Turner was penalised for foulingYan­nick Sagbo.

However, Sagbo was sent off moments later after clashing with Russell Martin but Norwich failed to score. YOAN Gouffran wasted a glorious chance to earn Newcastle their first win of the season after firing over the bar from two yards in injury time against West Ham.

Gouffran reacted first after Sammy Ameobi’s cross came back off the cross bar but failed to finish off a simple chance to win the match.

JOSE Fonte headed in late on to rescue Southampto­n a point at home to Sunderland.

The visitors had led for most of the match after Emanuele Giaccherin­i was left unmarked to head in a second-minute cross.

Jay Rodriguez thought he had equalised only for the flag to deny him but Fonte ensured the points were shared when he rose highest in the 88th minute.

ROBERTO Martinez is still awaiting his first victory as Everton manager after West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster denied his side the win.

Foster saved from Steven Pienaar and Kevin Mirallas and also denied Seamus Coleman, Ross Barkley and Marouane Fellaini.

And Fellaini and Coleman both hit the woodwork at the death as West Brom held on.

and then smashed in a third.

Darren Bent then scored soon after coming off the bench for his debut but Arsenal saw the game out.

Earlier Joe Cole shot just over for West Ham who remain unbeaten this season, though Winston Reid almost put through his own goal.

MARK Hughes won his first home game in charge of Stoke after Ryan Shawcross completed a comeback win over Crystal Palace.

Stoke went behind when Marouane Chamakh scored for the Eagles.

Charlie Adam levelled the game when he curled in a left-footed strike before Shawcross pounced to grab all three points and give Hughes a fine home start.
