Born: Born: Lancaster, 1978 (Age 35) Playing career: A talented swimmer as a schoolboy, Beattie reached No.2 in the country befor e a shoulder injury forced him to choose football.

Spotted playing for his school, he signed for Blackburn aged 15 and made his debut in 1996, making four appearance­s before leaving to join Southampto­n in 1998.

Beattie spent seven years at Saints, scoring 68 goals in 204 games and winning five England caps before a £6m move to Everton in 2005.

However, he scored just 13 goals in thr ee seasons at Goodison and was sold to Championsh­ip side Sheffield United for £4m.

Back on the goal trail once mor e, he netted 34 times in 64 games to ear n a move back to the Premer League with Stoke.

Though he subsequent­ly scored seven goals in his first 16 games, a r ow with manager Tony Pulis saw him leave to join Rangers in 2010.

His stay at Ibrox yielded no goals, as did a loan spell with Blackpool and a brief r eturn to Sheffield United.

In 2013, Beattie joined League Two Accrington Stanley. Managerial career: Appointed player-coach by Stanley boss Leam Richardson, Beattie scored seven times in 27 games.

And when Richardson left to become assistant to Paul Cook at Chesterfie­ld in May 2013, Beattie was appointed manager.
