KENNY – LET’S FINISH THE JOB

WOLVES manager Kenny Jackett admits his players have been thinking of promotion all season...now, with their dream nearing a reality, he insists there is no room for error.

Second-half strikes from Danny Batth and Dave Edwards saw Wolves maintain their six-point lead at the top of the pile with victory over Peterborough.

The Molineux outfit also equalled a club record of 23 clean sheets in the league, something they can look to eclipse along with gaining a return to the Championship in their remaining five fixtures.

And even though they are in pole position to secure promotion, Jackett remains defiant his team will not take their foot off the gas so close to the finish line.

“It was a great win and I thought we played very well, the performance was pleasing,” said Jackett.

“If we are looking at the first period we didn’t have the efforts our possession warranted but when we do keep the ball and keep on top of the opposition, the chances come.

“They were two great goals and an excellent clean sheet. Every win at this stage is a big step.

“If you win games early in the season that’s fine but you don’t need to concentrate too much what’s going on elsewhere. But at this stage you need to when your down into single figures in games left.

“We do think of promotion, we have thought about it from day one, but how do you get promotion?

“You concentrate on your next game, yes that’s been our aim all the way though, but you need to concentrate on the football.”

Bakary Sako was first to test Bobby Olejnik in the Peterborough goal with a fierce strike on 14 minutes, while Michael Jacobs and Kevin McDonald both went close in a goalless first half.

Wolves however took the lead three minutes into the second half as Batth headed home a Sam Rick- etts cross from the right before revealing a shirt which paid tribute to his late friend Josh Jones – who he knew from his schooldays.

“Dreamt about sending this message to a great guy lost from all that knew him, sadly lost, never forgotten, #RIPJosh” said Batth on Twitter afterwards.

Edwards doubled their advantage on 68 minutes, tapping home from close range.

Sako then missed a late penalty after Dicko was fouled by Michael Bostwick, but Posh boss Darren Ferguson insists Wolves look every bit a Championship side.

“We were nowhere near them and you have to give them credit for that,” he said.“That’s why they are top of the league. It’s a huge disappointment for us as we came here to give them a game.

“The bottom line is that our performance wasn’t good.

“I’ve got great trust in my players but I’ll have to look at the players I picked and I take respon- sibility for that. We played the same team as Wednesday, and maybe I should have changed it because we don’t have the consistency of performances.”
