HAPPY HORNETS AB FAB AGAIN!

Almen double wows Watford

- By Colin Henrys

LADY LUCK shone on Brentford as the Bees snatched victory at Rotherham – leaving Millers’ boss Steve Evans to blast his strikers’ profligacy.

Rotherham twice hit the bar before Andre Gray gave Brentford the lead in first-half stoppage time and Nick Proschwitz sealed victory on the stroke of full-time.

And Evans – who also felt Brentford benefitted from a number of decisions from referee Stuart Attwell – admitted he was bitterly disappointed to have come away with nothing.

“It’s quite hard to take,” a furious Evans said.“We have had two home performances against Watford and Brentford and we should have six points but we have nothing to show for it.

“We dominated them for long periods. We hit the woodwork and we had it off the line.We had a succession of chances but they broke away a minute from half-time and scored. We’re then pushing everyone forward in injury time when they get the second. Goals win matches and Brentford have come and nicked the win.

“We have to earn our points and our performance was super – they have been battered from start to finish – but I don’t include the striking department in that because we have missed a succession of chances.”

Gray almost broke the deadlock just three minutes in, after Alex Pritchard’s block tackle fell to him in space, but Adam Collin parried clear.

At the other end, Kirk Broadfoot’s header clattered the bar on five minutes before David Button denied Ben Pringle from the rebound.

Matt Derbyshire should have broken the deadlock on 36 minutes when gifted a free header, but he got his bearings wrong and headed wide.

Paul Taylor went even closer for the hosts on 43 minutes, curling a right-footed shot against the bar from 18 yards when Alex Revell’s header was only half cleared. Rotherham rued their misses however, as Gray fired in off the post in stoppage time to cap a flowing counter-attack.

At the other end, Derbyshire caught James Tarkowski in possession on the hour but his weak shot was saved by Button.

But as Rotherham pressed for an equaliser, Brentford again hit them on the break in the final minute of stoppage time – Jon Toral squaring for Proschwitz to tap in.

Bees’ boss Mark Warburton, insists the victory was no more than his team deserved, however, as they now head into the international break.

“It was a magnificent performance,” he said.“We knew what to expect. They are a very organ- ised side, with some very talented players and the physical talent of Revell.

“I thought Harlee Dean and James Tarkowski were excellent at centre-back.

“We played very, very well with some great patches of play.

“Could we have been more clinical? Yes we could, and a special mention for David Button who has made two or three tremendous saves and really dominated the box in the second half.

“I think the international break coming now is a good thing. We’ve had a tough schedule, as all the teams have.

“We’ve had Saturday-Tuesday all the way through and I think the players are ready for that short break.”
