WE NEED TO PUNISH TEAMS

- By Blair Ferguson

NORWICH might be top of the Championship but Neil Adams is urging his players to start taking their chances or risk slipping back down the table.

After being undone by a classic smash and grab job by Charlton in midweek, Adams was hoping to get back to winning ways as they entertained Rotherham.

But some more wayward finishing let the Canaries down and they needed Cameron Jerome’s 77thminute goal to rescue a point and cancel out Paul Green’s first-half penalty after Matt Derbyshire was bundled over by John Ruddy.

Once again Adams was left wondering what could have been as Norwich wasted chance after chance, something the manager wants to change and quickly.

“It’s a concern,” said Adams. “When you look at the last two games we’ve let five points slip through our fingers and again there’s ways to look at it.

“If we’d been very poor in the games then I’d be worried. At the minute there’s very little, if anything, wrong with the performances we are producing, things just aren’t going our way at home.

“Performance-wise it was very good again, we totally dominated the game and again I’ve got an opposition manager saying to me I don’t know how we’ve got anything from that, which is nice to hear.

“But I’m frustrated and disappointed that we’ve played very well and dominated a game but we have to make sure we punish teams and take the points.”

Despite Norwich having the early pressure it was Rotherham who came closest in the opening ten minutes as Derbyshire poked a Craig Morgan header across the six-yard box towards goal, however the striker couldn’t get enough on his effort to beat Ruddy.

Norwich had to wait until five minutes before half-time for their first real chance of the game with Lewis Grabban seeing his header brilliantly saved by Adam Collin.

The goalkeeper had tipped the ball into the path of Jerome whose shot was blocked on the line before Collin was on hand to save the striker’s second effort.

No sooner had Norwich almost scored than they find themselves behind. The ball was almost immediately sent long up the pitch to
