WY­COMBE’S 12th league win of the sea­son was also their best ac­cord­ing to Gareth Ainsworth after he saw his side thump four past fel­low pro­mo­tion can­di­dates Southend.

Jack Payne had given the vis­i­tors the lead early on, but goals from Paris Cowan-Hall and Matt McClure turned the game on its head.

Southend’s Jerome Bin­nomWil­liams was given his march­ing or­ders after 60 min­utes for a hefty chal­lenge on Josh Scowen be­fore Joe Ja­cob­son and McClure’s sec­ond rubbed it in late on to cap off the win.

The vic­tory keeps free-scor­ing Wy­combe top of League Two and made it three wins in a row for the Chairboys who have also net­ted 11 times dur­ing the run.

Southend started the day with three con­sec­u­tive wins of their own, but were blown away by a Wy­combe side who con­tinue to im­press.

“It’s our joint big­gest win and maybe that’s the per­for­mance of the sea­son for me,” said Ainsworth.

“Southend came here with a fan­tas­tic man­ager in Phil Brown and with a big team and bud­get who were one of the favourites for the league this year.

“But we were de­served win­ners. Of course the send­ing off had an im­pact but any­one who was here knows we were the stronger team.
