WATFORD NOT TAYLOR MADE FOR PREM YET

- By Danny Rust

WATFORD legend Graham Taylor has urged the club to take swift and decisive action to prepare for life in the Premier League.

The Hornets clinched promotion to the top flight after an eight-year absence with their 2-0 win at Brighton last Saturday.

Taylor was one of the first to congratulate the Hornets, but says the club’s hard work starts now.

The ex-England manager said: “It may seem a harsh thing to say but they have got to be thinking seriously, ‘Do Watford have the necessary amount of talented players who will be able to handle the Premier League?’

“If they haven’t, I would hope they would try to remedy that before the next season starts. Everybody wants to be recognising how well this team and players have done but there’s always a future. They have to prepare for it.

“There is a big difference between the standard in the Premier League and in the Championship – and the gap has got wider.

“It’s not easy to go into the Premier League and maintain your place. Very few teams have done that but I very much hope Watford will do.”

Despite being cautious about the Hornets’ chances of staying in the top flight, Taylor has been quick to praise manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

“He has done excellently,” added Taylor. “The current owners have had four managers but this fella has delivered the goods, along with the team.”
