The Football League Paper

DREAM TEAM

DAVE SYERS – The Scunthorpe midfielder chooses his favourite XI, made up from players he has played with and against in his football career.

-

GOALKEEPERI

Neil Sullivan – Retired I played with him at Doncaster where he was coming to the end of his career but you could tell that he was still an excellent goalkeeper. He would always be one of the last on the training ground and I think that’s what allowed him to have such a long and successful career.

CENTRE BACKI

Tommy Spurr – Blackburn Rovers I’ve known Tommy for a long time and he has always been an outstanding professional. For me he is one of the best defenders not playing in the Premier League at the moment.

CENTRE BACKI

Rob Jones – Doncaster Rovers Rob was a colossus for us when we won promotion back to the Championship at Doncaster. He scared people and he is easily one of the best defenders in League One at the moment.

CENTRE BACKI

Luke O’Brien – Unattached Luke was great during my first season at Bradford. He kept running up and down the wing without a fuss and would be fully committed to the team and managed to put in some good crosses as well.

RIGHTI MIDFIELDI

Dave Cotterill – Birmingham City Dave was superb at Doncaster and he is rightly now back playing at a higher level. He has played a huge part in the rise of Wales in the world rankings as well and I’m delighted with how everything is going for him.

CENTRALI MIDFIELDI

Dele Alli – Tottenham Hotspur I’ve seen him play a couple of times this season but I didn’t realise how good he was until I played against him recently. He is an unbelievable talent who will go a long way in the game. I’m sure he is worth every penny of the £6million Tottenham have paid for him.
