EURO GLORY HAS TO BE NEW TARGET

-

BEING out in Canada for the World Cup was a real privilege, but it was the access to the players that made it so special.

Every day we got the chance to hear the stories that made these players want to pull on the shirt.

From Jade Moore’s hole in the heart, to Karen Carney wanting to jack in the game she loved, each one of that England team had an extra incentive to play for their country. And it showed.

Mark Sampson, the England boss, made sure the mental aspect of the game was as important as the physical in Canada and it showed. So what next for England? Beating European champions Germany in that 3rd/4th play-off has ramped up the expectation another notch for the Euros now.

Sampson says they can win it. He also said they’d make the semi-finals in Canada, so who’s to doubt him now?

As he’s fond of saying, his team are in a “good place” – and that may just well take them to the top of the pile in the Netherlands in 2017.
