TIGERS’ AKPOM ON THE PROWL

-

HULL boss Steve Bruce is confident Chuba Akpom can serve up a fright in the Championship after snapping up the Arsenal striker on loan.

Akpom is highly thought of in north London and scored a hat-trick against a Singapore XI during preseason before being let go to join up with Bruce at the KC Stadium.

He is no stranger to the Championship – appearing briefly for Nottingham Forest at the end of last year – but has yet to score a senior goal.

However, Bruce believes 19-year-old Akpom, who became Hull’s fourth signing of the summer, can bloom during his stay on Humberside.

“Chuba is someone who I like because of his ability,” said Bruce, who has also brought in midfielder Isaac Hayden on loan from the Gunners.

“He is still a boy at 19 and we may have to nurse him a bit, but he has frightening ability.

“He got three for Arsenal’s first team last month. I’ve always got on well with Arsene (Wenger), he’s always done me a turn.”
