HULL boss Steve Bruce is con­fi­dent Chuba Akpom can serve up a fright in the Cham­pi­onship af­ter snap­ping up the Ar­se­nal striker on loan.

Akpom is highly thought of in north Lon­don and scored a hat-trick against a Sin­ga­pore XI dur­ing pre­sea­son be­fore be­ing let go to join up with Bruce at the KC Sta­dium.

He is no stranger to the Cham­pi­onship – ap­pear­ing briefly for Not­ting­ham For­est at the end of last year – but has yet to score a se­nior goal.

How­ever, Bruce be­lieves 19-year-old Akpom, who be­came Hull’s fourth sign­ing of the sum­mer, can bloom dur­ing his stay on Hum­ber­side.

“Chuba is some­one who I like be­cause of his abil­ity,” said Bruce, who has also brought in midfielder Isaac Hay­den on loan from the Gun­ners.

“He is still a boy at 19 and we may have to nurse him a bit, but he has fright­en­ing abil­ity.

“He got three for Ar­se­nal’s first team last month. I’ve al­ways got on well with Arsene (Wenger), he’s al­ways done me a turn.”
