CARLOS: YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR PLACE

SHEFFIELD Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has told his fringe players to prove they are worth a starting berth – like he did in his playing days.

Carvalhal spent time with Braga and Chaves and knows what it’s like to be left out of a side.

But the 49-year-old says disappointment at being named on the bench should be turned around.

“When I played, I probably played 90 per cent of the time when I was younger,” he said. “Sometimes I didn’t play, but I never asked to leave because I was left on the bench. What I had to do was fight to get in the first XI.”
