Teams needed Charlie’s goals...

-

SOME top players demand the red carpet treatment wherever they go, but Queens Park Rangers’ £15m-rated striker Charlie Austin made a visit to watch two of his former Non-League teams do battle this week – and insisted on paying for the privilege, writes Alex Southey.

The 26-year-old paid £10 admission to watch Hungerford v Poole in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier – and joked about wanting his money back with Poole manager Tom Killick after failing to see any goals.

Killick saw the funny side and said: “I wouldn’t have charged him if he had come to a home game. It was really good to catch up with him –he likes to come and support us when he’s not playing.”
