NIGEL IS AD-AMANT HE’LL PLAY

-

SHEFFIELD United boss Nigel Adkins says he wants next month’s clash with Colchester to go ahead, despite four of his players being on international duty that weekend.

Defender David Edgar has been called up to the Canada squad, Callum McFadzean is named in the Scotland Under21s, Che Adams has received a first-ever call-up to the England Under-20s, while Louis Reed is set to represent the England Under-19s.

It means the Blades’ resources will be stretched on that weekend, but Adkins would rather play the fixture now than face congestion further down the line.

“Having three players called up allows you to call a game off and we have four,” said Adkins. “But we will do everything we can to keep the game on, because we don’t want to fall behind on the games programme. At this stage we definitely want the fixture against Colchester to go ahead.

“It is great for the lads to be selected to represent their respective nations and long may it continue.

“It is a first international call up for Che. He recently signed an improved longterm deal with us and this is yet another step in the right direction for him.”
