WE’RE SET FOR A NERVY FINISH!

-

WANT to know a measure of how far the game has come? Then look no further than the bottom of WSL1.

With three games left, just two points separate the two who could drop… and what a pair!

Bristol Academy, who beat Barcelona to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2015, prop up the table.

Birmingham, who could have won the league last season, are just above them. I can’t decide whether this is great for the game or shows how European adventures can decimate a squad. What is sure is that avoiding the drop could mean everything for the future.

Birmingham City boss David Parker said: “Getting relegated from WSL 1 is a doomsday scenario – it is funding, players, everything.

“You see the way Everton went down, losing a couple of players, and now you can see how hard it is to get out.”

While all eyes were on the top last season, this year it’s all about the bottom.
