England return is in sight for Pool star

-

IN-FORM Liverpool striker Natasha Dowie admits she has her sights set on an England recall, after helping the Reds rediscover their mojo in theWSL.

The 27-year-old missed the World Cup after falling down the international pecking order, but has netted eight times in her last seven matches to work her way back onto Mark Sampson’s radar.

They may be reigningWSL champions, but Liverpool’s inconsistency earlier in the season has put them out of contention in the league standings, but thanks largely to Dowie they are unbeaten in five and on track in the Continental Tyres Cup.

And, with the European Championships qualification campaign set to begin next month, Dowie believes if she carries on at this rate, a return to the international set-up may be just around the corner.

“I’ve got my eye on getting back in the England squad,” she said.“It’s every girls dream to represent your country, but there’s so much competition in that centre-forward position and there are a lot of girls in very good form.

“But, that’s eight goals in seven games now and I hope I’ve caught Mark Sampson’s eye.

“I’ll just keep my head down and keep being positive. The main thing is I’m playing well for Liverpool and enjoying myself.”
