SHREWS’ GERRARD SWOOP!

SHREWSBURY Town have agreed to sign defender Anthony Gerrard, despite the free agent being weeks away from full fitness.

Gerrard, the 29-year-old cousin of former Liverpool and England captain Steven, has been training with the club for a fortnight, but Shrews boss Micky Mellon has called for patience.

“Anthony still has a bit of training to do before he’s there,” said Mellon. “But when he’s ready, he’ll be available to us.

“He hasn’t done anything for a long time so I wouldn’t get carried away saying ‘he’s imminently available’. He’s working his socks off, but I’ve got to be careful only to put him in when he’s ready.”
