GARNER VOWS TO CLEAN UP HIS ACT

-

STRIKER Joe Garner knows he needs to avoid referees’ attention having picked up five yellows and a red card this season.

The Preston North End star missed three league games through suspension after receiving a red card against Wolves on September 26 and is aware of the implications of a repeat.

“It has been a bit of a lesson for me, I need to get a few less bookings and be careful to make sure I don’t get another red,” said the 27year-old. “I won’t be changing my game too much, but I need to be aware of how referees see things.”

Garner scored 27 goals to help fire Preston to promotion from League One last season, but so far he has struggled in front of goal.

“Going into a higher division is always going to test you,” he added. “Is it tougher than we might have expected? I honestly don’t know, because some of us have played at this level before and some haven’t.

“Hopefully over the course of the season things will level themselves out and things will start to fall in place for us in front of goal a bit more.”
