Bees do their bit for star Stan

-

WARM-HEARTED Brentford are producing their largest-ever programme for next Friday’s derby against QPR to raise funds and awareness for Stan Bowles and the Alzheimer’s Society.

The 104-page Bees Review souvenir edition will include special features on the midfielder, who played almost 100 games for the Griffin Park outfit before retiring in 1984.

The former England international, 66, who played for the Bees and QPR in an illustrious career, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in the summer.

Brentford chief executive Mark Devlin said: “It says so much about the immense talent Stan had as a footballer and as one of the game’s real characters that fans from close rivals both feel such warmth towards a player.

“We are delighted to be able to support and welcome Stan back to Griffin Park for what I’m sure will be an emotional occasion for both him and his family. Hopefully the evening will raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and provide funds for his ongoing care.”

The programme will cost £4 with £1 from all sales split between the Alzheimer’s Society and Bowles’ ongoing care needs. You can also donate to his GoFundMe account: www.gofundme.com/StanBowl es or make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society via www.alzheimers.org.uk.
