Bees do their bit for star Stan

WARM-HEARTED Brent­ford are pro­duc­ing their largest-ever pro­gramme for next Fri­day’s derby against QPR to raise funds and aware­ness for Stan Bowles and the Alzheimer’s So­ci­ety.

The 104-page Bees Re­view sou­venir edi­tion will in­clude spe­cial fea­tures on the mid­fielder, who played al­most 100 games for the Grif­fin Park out­fit be­fore re­tir­ing in 1984.

The former England in­ter­na­tional, 66, who played for the Bees and QPR in an il­lus­tri­ous ca­reer, was di­ag­nosed with Alzheimer’s in the sum­mer.

Brent­ford chief ex­ec­u­tive Mark Devlin said: “It says so much about the im­mense tal­ent Stan had as a foot­baller and as one of the game’s real char­ac­ters that fans from close ri­vals both feel such warmth to­wards a player.

“We are de­lighted to be able to sup­port and wel­come Stan back to Grif­fin Park for what I’m sure will be an emo­tional oc­ca­sion for both him and his fam­ily. Hope­fully the evening will raise aware­ness of Alzheimer’s and pro­vide funds for his on­go­ing care.”
