Birth­day girl Yankey has her eyes on an­other prize

IT’S Rachel Yankey’s 36th birth­day to­day – and the Arse­nal and England winger is aim­ing to cel­e­brate by adding yet an­other win­ner’s medal to her huge col­lec­tion.

With 30 do­mes­tic league and cup gongs plus a Euro­pean ti­tle to her name, Yankey is the coun­try’s most dec­o­rated player in the his­tory of women’s club foot­ball.

But she is still as hun­gry as ever for suc­cess, as Notts County will find out when they face the Gun­ners in this af­ter­noon’s Con­ti­nen­tal Tyres Cup fi­nal at Rother­ham.

“A win­ning men­tal­ity has been bred into me,” said Yankey, who be­gan her Arse­nal ca­reer in 1996 and is now in the 11th year of a sec­ond spell at the club, hav­ing re­turned af­ter a five-year hia­tus in which she played for Ful­ham – as the first full-time pro­fes­sional fe­male player in England – and then Birm­ing­ham City.
