Birthday girl Yankey has her eyes on another prize

IT’S Rachel Yankey’s 36th birthday today – and the Arsenal and England winger is aiming to celebrate by adding yet another winner’s medal to her huge collection.

With 30 domestic league and cup gongs plus a European title to her name, Yankey is the country’s most decorated player in the history of women’s club football.

But she is still as hungry as ever for success, as Notts County will find out when they face the Gunners in this afternoon’s Continenta­l Tyres Cup final at Rotherham.

“A winning mentality has been bred into me,” said Yankey, who began her Arsenal career in 1996 and is now in the 11th year of a second spell at the club, having returned after a five-year hiatus in which she played for Fulham – as the first full-time profession­al female player in England – and then Birmingham City.
