Five-star Fleetwood impress Pressley

- By Esther Jackson

BOSS Steven Pressley hailed Fleetwood Town’s emphatic win at Swindon as his side’s best since taking the reins last month.

The Cod Army took the lead in the 34th minute when Robins defender Adam El-Abd put through his own net, then four second-half goals from Antoni Sarcevic, David Henen, Tariqe Fosu Henry and substitute Bobby Grant secured all the points.

Swindon’s consolation came through Nicky Ajose, but that did little to sour Pressley’s day.

“It was an outstanding result and an outstanding performance from us,” he said.

“Since I’ve come to the club it was our most complete performance, because we played with such intensity and such purpose.

“We had a lot of belief and were really exciting to watch. I know the game ended 51 but the reality was it could have been nine or ten.

“When the supporters come here they have to see us play with that real intent, so I was delighted for everyone here.

“The only downside for me was that we lost a goal. I said in the dressing room after the game that we have to keep driving standards.

“It has to be 5-0 and not 5-1, but I’ll settle for the win as it will certainly give us confidence due to the manner of victory.”

Pressley’s men took the lead when Henen fired a cross in along the floor and Swindon defender El-Abd got his foot to the ball first and deflected it into the back of the net.

Just ten minutes into the second half Fleetwood were awarded a penalty after Vigouroux fouled Ball in the box and Sarcevic fired into the top left corner.

Just ten minutes later Fleetwood made it three, Henen stroked the ball after a neat pass from Sarcevic into the bottom left corner.

On 69 minutes FosuHenry scored his first goal for the club, following good play from Fleetwood and coolly finished.

Martin Ling’s side pulled a goal back with an Ajose header on 79 minutes, but then substitute Grant scored a glorious goal from 25 yards curling effort into the top left corner to add more insult to injury.

Ling said: “That’s not good enough. We talk about the Swindon way but first thing you’ve got to do is compete for the ball.

“We were second best all over the pitch. I didn’t see it coming that’s the disappointing thing.

“It isn’t good enough and they know that. There is a way of playing and a way of passing. No matter what you do you have to win the ball back.

“I’d put it down to all eleven players having a bad day at the same time. No-one is exempt from criticism.”
