‘BIG TIME’ BIANCA’S JUST GR-EIGHT ALL OVER AGAIN!

- By Sheridan Robins

SCORING a hat-trick not only grabs headlines – it presents you with the match ball and deserved plaudits from teammates and fans.

But what’s the ritual when you score eight in a game? Well, Bianca Owens of Middlesbrough ladies may be able to create her own as she has done just that – not once but twice!

In Sunday’s 10-2 win over Stockport in the WPL Northern Division One, Owens was on target eight times and just a month ago, she scored the same amount in an 11-0 FA Cup win over Lowick United.

The 18-year-old prolific striker told Women’s Football Weekly that she is not used to all the coverage and is getting a bit of stick from her team-mates as a result.

“The girls are calling me ‘big time’ now with all this attention I have been getting and all that is mentioned at training now is my eight goals,” joked Owens.

“But I have never done anything like this before and it really was incredible to do it once – let alone twice. I am not sure how to describe it, to be honest.

“I was just so buzzing. But the girls are all amazing and without them I wouldn’t be getting the goals.”

Despite her scintillatimh form Owens is extremely moodest and overwhelmed at the response she has had.

She said:“I have always been known for my goals but when I was a child I didn’t really have a position. I think I have found it.

now. It is a good job too as I am useless everywhere else!

“I don’t even think there was a stand-out goal. My favourite was probably the eighth as it meant I matched my record from before. It just meant a lot.”

Middlesbrough are flyinghigh at the top of the league having lost just one game this season. Owens says that they don’t fear anyone but they are in a better position than they had perhaps anticipated at this stage.

“We finished fourth last season so we knew we could challenge for promotion. But I don’t think we thought we would be top after ten games. This is personally the best form I have ever been in and the team as well.

“Even in training we just look so strong and have an incredible team spirit. We know that each game will be challenging but we are playing with confidence and have the talent in the squad.”

Boro host eighth-placed Mossley Hill today and Owens will be looking to add to her 28 goals so far this season.
