NEWPORT READY FOR EXODUS

-

MANAGERS are often keen to keep as big a squad as possible, but Newport County boss Warren Feeney is encouraging some of his players to leave the club.

As he eyes up new signings, Feeney is also hoping to offload numbers before Monday’s transfer deadline – with Seth Nana Twumasi, Matt Taylor and Nathan Ralph among the possible departures.

The Exiles boss believes some players should be looking to move on for the sake of their careers.

“When I was a player I hated sitting around and not playing,” said Feeney.

“I remember when I was at Cardiff and Jimmy [Floyd Hasselbaink] and Robbie [Fowler] came in. I didn’t want to sit on the bench.

“Three months down the line there are going to be 2,000 people out of contract. You can get a head-start on them by going. I can’t force anyone to leave, but if there are a couple that want to go I’m not one of those to stand in their way.”
