CALD’S HOT TIPS GIVE THE LATICS A BOOST

- By Paul Ellison

BOSS Gary Caldwell says Sam Morsy and Ryan Colclough performed so well against Wigan Athletic this season that he had to bring them noth on board.

The Latics have now signed six players this month with midfielder Morsy arriving from Chesterfield and winger Colclough completing his switch from Crewe Alexandra.

And Caldwell admitted having seen the two respectively perform so well against his side, he could not risk a repeat.

“They are players we have been keeping a close eye on so to be able to get both over the line now is a major boost for us,” said the Scot.

“We saw their talent first hand in matches this season and they both were stand out players in matches against Chesterfield and Crewe respectively.

“They are exactly the type of players we want at Wigan Athletic, young and hungry, but with plenty of experience at this level at the same time as having the ability to progress and play in a higher division. Hopefully, of course, that will be with us.

“Sam is an aggressive, talented central midfielder, a leader on and off the park, while Ryan is a young talent who has the ability to get people off their seat.”

Morsy, 24, has scored four goals in 26 league games this term and signed a twoand-a-half year deal, while highly-rated 21-year-old Colclough has notched seven times in 27 League One contests and has agreed a three-and-a-half year contract.

And chairman David Sharpe is delighted with the acquisitions.

“It makes a statement as to our ambition that we are able to unveil Sam and Ryan, and I think both of these players will become big favourites here,” said Sharpe.

“They fit the right age profile and will form part of our future for seasons to come.”
