Shaun can’t wait to take to skies

- By Stuart Hammonds

HE’S a flying right-back by trade, but Morecambe’s Shaun Beeley is hoping his next job after football will be flying through the clouds!

The 27-year-old former Fleetwood man is having private training to gain his pilot’s licence and can often be found in the cockpit of a plane at Blackpool Airport on his day off, doing circuits of the local area to build up his flying time.

Beeley has to take 23 exams in subjects such as meteorology and air law, with a 95 per cent pass required, before he graduates.

But he tells this month’s edition of FourFourTwo magazine that he’d quit football if the opportunity to train to become a pilot for a big commercial airline came up, even if his team-mates at Globe Arena don’t share his sky-high confidence.

“The other lads at Morecambe give me some stick,” says Beeley. “They say that, if they get on a plane and I come over the tannoy, they’re going to get straight off!”

Well, footballers are always saying they’re going to keep their feet on the ground!
